In this short video, we light up a candle in a plate with water, then cover it with an empty glass. Then what happens next?
What we see is that the candle frame is out quickly. Then water comes inside the glass, first slowly, then at the last second or two, water rushes in much faster.
A simple experiment may not be very simple to explain. After completing this fun experiment, I would like to ask a few questions.
First, why the candle frame is out?
Second, what water comes into the glass?
Third, why water comes much faster near the end?
During our online class, the first question was easy for our elementary kids. With some hints, they could also figure out answer to the 2nd question. The third one was quite tricky to answer.
What do you think? We’ll post answers next time.
